Japan Day 2: Akihabara

November 04, 2007 By: marvin Category: Stray Thoughts, Travels 5 Comments →

An Otaku’s Pilgrimage can never be complete without a visit to Akihabara. ^^ unfortunately it seems that I didn’t have enough time to go around a bit more since I went there a little bit late. I only got to go around a single building, (T-T) so I guess I’d have to make another stop there before I return home.

the first buiding that caught my eye was this one. I went straight into it without a second thought. I wanted to take some pictures of the maids giving out packs of pocket tissue outside the Akihabara station, but figured I’d do that later, unfortuately they weren’t there anymore when I got back.
Gundams!
Gundamaniac’s Paradise! ^^ I would have pitched a tent and slept here if only they were open 24 hours. ^^ on a side note gunpla here a lot cheaper, about half the price. makes me want to change my place of residence.
Otaku Tissue
one of the more stranger stuff I found in the shop, rolls of hentai manga tissue paper. It would probably feel strange wiping your bottom with manga. but at least an otaku would have something to read while in the john. ^^

Japan Day 2: Japanese Dining

November 04, 2007 By: marvin Category: food, Travels No Comments →

Dining  in Japan is a unique experience. most restaurants here would hand the bill over to your table while you’re having your meal. although this would probably be regarded as offensive to western dining rules, but in Japan it is considered normal. I myself would sometimes forget about it and ask the bill from the waiter, only to feel embarrassed when the waiter would gesture that the bill was already on the table. ^^; however if one might want to avoid this embarrassing situation, there’s always a McDonald’s somewhere around the area. Although the Mcdonalds I went to has a strange looking vending machine that dispenses Mc Cards. probably some sort of prepaid coupons. Then again this might come in handy if one gets mugged, the muggers would probably just get your cash and wouldn’t even trouble themselves with the mc cards. ^^

Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z! I had a previous post on them a while back.

Another unique setup I found was in a curry shop in Akihabara. Instead of having a cashier or even a cash register, you just choose which particular food tickles your fancy on a vending machine, the machine then dispenses a stub that you would later give to a waiter to let him know what you wanted.

Katsu Curry yum!

speaking of vending machines, I found it strange how drinks vending machines could be found just about anywhere tokyo. I even saw one in the middle of nowhere during my visit to the Noto Ishikawa. if it were in the Philippines those machines would have already long been stolen.
