Speed Grade RX-78 Gundam

Got myself a couple of speed grade gundams at Akiba. Just had to buy them since they were real cheap plus they were on sale.
Speed Grde Gundams
admittedly these gundams aren’t of the highest quality. but for the price one has to pay for them I’d say its well worth the 546 yen.
the scale of the gundam is 1/200, the same size as a HCMPro. But of course the details on the speed grade won’t be as nice as a HCMPro. so to compensate for the lack of detail I decided to draw the panel lines of this Gundam. unfortunately I can’t use gundam markers or black ink technical pens since the lines would come out too prominent, so I decided to use a .03 lead mechanical pencil on it.

Color separation wasn’t exactly eye poping great either, there were occasional color bleeding like the one on the image below.

hopefully I was able cover most of the inconsistency with panel lines, ^^

just for comparison here is an image of the HCMPro and speed grade shields

And here is an image of the gundam at the back of the bag, without the panel lines.

and finally some images of the finished gundam. ^^

In terms of level of detailing and quality the 1/200 SG gundams wouldn’t probably even look as good as a HG kit. but for the price I’d still say it was a good buy. The gundam was quite an easy build as well, if one plans on giving a kid a kit to start off with, this would be the perfect kit… quick, easy an much better looking than an SD gundam. ^^
