Ar Tonelico: Ruka

November 23, 2007 By: marvin Category: Figures and Gashapons, Toys and Goodies 1 Comment →

Just my luck, just when I’m trying to quit with buying figures, something like this comes along.
Ar Tonelico Ruka
1/7 scale PVC figure of Ar Tonelico’s Ruka by Max Factory. Image swiped from here.
*Sigh* to buy or not to buy. ^^

Speed Grade RX-78 Gundam

November 20, 2007 By: marvin Category: Model Kits, Gundam, Toys and Goodies No Comments →

Got myself a couple of speed grade gundams at Akiba. Just had to buy them since they were real cheap plus they were on sale.
Speed Grde Gundams
admittedly these gundams aren’t of the highest quality. but for the price one has to pay for them I’d say its well worth the 546 yen.
the scale of the gundam is 1/200, the same size as a HCMPro. But of course the details on the speed grade won’t be as nice as a HCMPro. so to compensate for the lack of detail I decided to draw the panel lines of this Gundam. unfortunately I can’t use gundam markers or black ink technical pens since the lines would come out too prominent, so I decided to use a .03 lead mechanical pencil on it.

Color separation wasn’t exactly eye poping great either, there were occasional color bleeding like the one on the image below.
Color Bleeding
hopefully I was able cover most of the inconsistency with panel lines, ^^

just for comparison here is an image of the HCMPro and speed grade shields

And here is an image of the gundam at the back of the bag, without the panel lines.

and finally some images of the finished gundam. ^^

In terms of level of detailing and quality the 1/200 SG gundams wouldn’t probably even look as good as a HG kit. but for the price I’d still say it was a good buy. The gundam was quite an easy build as well, if one plans on giving a kid a kit to start off with, this would be the perfect kit… quick, easy an much better looking than an SD gundam. ^^

Tech Secrets: Freeze fix your hard drive!

November 19, 2007 By: marvin Category: weblinks, Geeky Gadgets 6 Comments →

hdd
I’ve had an old hard drive die on me once before, taking my precious Image, documents, MP3’s and Anime movie files along with it. wish I knew this technique then, else I wouldn’t have just thrown the drive away. If anyone should find themselves in a similar predicament, put the drive into an air tight zip bag, wrap it in a towel, then bury it in your back yard… ^^ just kidding on the last part, take the towelled drive and pop it into the freezer for a few hours. Put the drive back into your computer afterwards. and if it starts working, start backing up your data. if not, then either your drive is a hopeless case that or you did it the same way this guy did it.

in which case you can start digging a hole on your yard to bury it in. ^^

Found the hard drive freezing technique on Gearlog. and the image of the frozen drive on Hardforum. Although I sincerely hope none of you folks would get to experience a failed hard drive. hope this blog entry would someday help anyone out there with a broken hard drive.

Shuraki Trinity: Akatsuki Mishiro

Shuraki Trinity: Akatsuki Mishiro
Akatsuki Mishiro is the first of three figures released earlier on by the Good Smile Company and Red Entertainment. the package includes a two drama audio CD, an illustrated booklet and of course the beautifully sculpted figure. unfortunately though, my particular pack didn’t have the booklet. :( oh well, then again it was a bit cheaper than the other Akastsuki Mishiro figure I saw displayed on another consignment locker. ^^ besides it saves me the trouble of racking my brain to understand what was written on it. nihongo no kanji ga totemo muzukashii desu yo ne! ^^ anyway back to the figure, Akatsuki Mishiro also came with an alternative battle scarred clothing.

you can check out how she looks in both on the images bellow.

She also has two interchangable katanas, the red Yominomu and the Blue Aonoyuki.

since the clothes can be interchanged obviously it’s also a cast off figure as well. ^^ however, in order to change her clothes you’d have to take her arms apart, fortunately the seams are not so obvious and is stratigically lined against her bra straps.

The figure itself is a beautifully sculpted piece of art by Zenkoo. check out the link to see more of his works.  and if you would want to see more images of Akatsuki Mishiro, scroll on down to the bottom to check out the gallery. but before that I just have to post some of the not so serious images I took of the figure. ^^
Waitress Akatsuki
Mishiro Akatsuki the Waitress. ^^ I remember seeing the image from Danny’s news item. the original is posted here. anyway I realized I had the same food tray set so decided to take images of it as well. a real shame that I don’t have the tea pot as well.
