2nd day in Shanghai and we went out to find more places to shop. ^^

Today’s weather forecast… WINDY! yes it was extremely cold and windy today in Shanghai. So we decided to seek refuge in malls rather than braving it out and walking in and out of small shops outside. one of the malls we first visited was Parkson.

I’ve been seaching for otaku shops here in Shanghai, unfortunately I couldn’t find a single one around. I did however manage to find an SD dendrobium while at Parkson. ^^

The sad fact was nothing much happened today except that we spent the whole day shopping at the malls. however I did find this curious little mobile phone accessory. it’s the same black egg hello kitty found in Hakone. however the letterings on the egg body has tamago written in katakana instead of hiragana. which leaves me to conclude that these kitty mobile straps are actually Sanrio’s rejects being sold locally since folks here wouldn’t care about the typo anyway.

outside of the malls people would typically find these pushy counterfeit watch vendors. These irritating watch salesmen will dog you to death. until you’d finally get so painfully irritated and give out a “bu yao!” shout right at their face. then they would scurry off to pester the next unsuspecting unfortunate bloke behind you.

If I were to give recommendations on which hotel to stay in Shanghai, I’d recommend the one I’m staying at right now. Eton Hotel.

My wife would always take pictures of our hotel room before she lets me unpack. this time around wasn’t an exception. ^^ I can’t complain though since I usually use the pictures and post them here. lol


Free Chocolates, funny thing is that the container itself was made of chocolate as well. ^^

I haven’t found any Gundam shops yet, however I did find some anime inspired clothes while wondering around NanJing Dong Lu.


however if your kid dreams of joining  the self defense force instead of being a tennis star, there’s always the Ultraman Apparel. ^^

Although we arrived just in time for dinner, there was still a lot to see in Shanghai. ^^; Right after we filled our stomachs we headed straight to a tourist spot named Xin Tian Di, translated as new heaven and earth. Careful planning has been made to keep the old structures in this area as it is, hollowing the structures out then renovating and turning the area into a commercial hub. The last time I came to this place was years ago, they were still filling out the spaces and renting them out to business establishments. But nowadays it a busy bustling place for young yuppies to hang out.


Another place we went straight away to was Nan Jing Dong Lu. Everything a tourist might want all in one street: small shops, malls, department stores, restaurants, and hotels. its all here.



looks like they are promoting Philippine tourism on their mini train that run around NanJing road.

wandered into a shop where they sell these interesting mascots, looks like China is going to have busy year. since they would be hosting both the new Expo the last of which was held in Japan. and the upcoming Olympic games.

on a side note, it seems both wikipedia and blogspot is being blocked here. at first I thought it was just being blocked by the hotel router, however it seems that every internet connection in Shanghai has these sites blocked. I haven’t tried accessing youtube and wordpress yet.

I’m off to Shanghai today. hopefully I’ll be able to find a decent internet connection for blog updates. ^^
