Asus EeePC

Looking for a brand new laptop for under $500usd? The Asus EeePC just might be what you’re lookng for. sure, it isn’t the $100 laptop, but still it’s one cool piece of hardware. and like the $100 laptop, this machine uses flash memory instead of a hard drive. and runs on Linux. installing Windows XP can also be done as an option. however the operating system might turn out more expensive than the actual laptop.

anyway, I went down to the regional distributor to check out the laptop. and to my delight, I got to try one out for myself. the laptop is increadibly small and light, about 92kg light. ^^ the machine had 3 usb ports, and an SD card reader. The Linux graphical interface was easy enough to use. The Linux OS runs smoothly on 512mb of ram with an intel celeron centrino processor. however I don’t know if Windows XP would run just as good on it. But if you decide on using the default Linux software, you need not worry since it has a number of software bundled with it as well, including open office for those word documents, excel worksheets, and powerpoint presentations, a number of Games, and some internet softwares like skype, messenger and firefox browser.the only thing missing IMO is a photo editing software like photoshop. (imagine editng images using MS paint). ^^ The tiny 7 inch screen don’t do the laptop any favors as well. then again it is a minor concern given the price you pay for the laptop. This laptop retails for about 19000php or $422usd, but folks would probably be able to find one for a lot less. the cheapest I found was about 16200php, that’s $360usd.

Hey, I have a PG Strike Gundam but I broke both crests on it
Well I managed to reattach them but then my little brother found it and lost both pieces. So now I’m stuck without the crests. Well I saw you had an IWSP kit from G system so I figure you still have the spare head. If you do, could I please purchase it from you? I’d send a money order for a reasonable price. Can you see my e-mail? If not, it’s jafabian37 hotmail com, thanks.

Jose, I’m sorry but the g system resin head has been lost for quite some time now, I never used it since I broke the v-fin when I first got it. however if you still have the box with you, I believe you can order parts from bandai using a form that came with your PG strike. however, I’m not sure if they ship outside of Japan.

Hey marv! is this laptop any good? I want to have a laptop that I can carry anywhere without problem of the size. my Acer Aspire 4710 is too big to carry it around…

hey samejima, you might find it a bit too slow compared to your core 2 duo, 1gb ram laptop, but its a lot lighter,around 6 times lighter compared to the 4710. feels like your carrying a mobile phone. Oh and I forgot to mention on the post, the solid state flash drive comes in 4 or 8 gigabyte only. ^^;

Ah, I see… btw, my Acer 4710 is only core duo. Was thinking of purchasing this gadget when I visit to cebu. Does it play music? I mean does it have a media player or something?

yes it does, I wasn’t able to check if it could play divx as well, but I’m pretty sure there are some linux codec that would allow it. in any case, you can format and install windows xp on it anyway.

Marv! I just got mine last saturday. Yeah, after test driving it, I then bought one…in black. it’s uber cool but couldn’t type faster cuz the keyboard is too tiny.. and just hacked the full desktop mode… no problems on editing pictures cuz it has Gimp image editor software but needs to be downloaded and installed.
