Gundam Unicorn
| Finally Done with the Master Grade Gundam Unicorn ver Ka, I’m not sure if the Unicorn was in fact harder to build or was it just because I haven’t build a Gunpla for the longest time, that I felt that it took me longer than usual to build this particular gunpla. another unfortunate incident was that I accidentally broke off the V-fin and had to use super glue on it. consequently that would mean the V-fin will be stuck on open position. sorry no unicorn mode, just NT-D mode for this kit. |
At first I was thinking about giving it a Titans colour scheme, however it seemed kind of silly since the titans wouldn’t have existed at UC0096. so I decided to keep the colour as it is, however I did paint it using Tamiya pearl white spray paint. a pity that it doesn’t show on photos. Anyway without any further ado, here are the images I took of the Destroy mode Gundam Unicorn
Right after painting, I went on and started to do the panel lines only to realize that the kit’s images on the box and the manual didn’t have any. so I decided to forgo the panel lines and spraypaint over the lines that I’ve already done. ^^;Â
Got the stand during my last visit to Akihabara, although it’s meant for Dolls, it seems to work on Gundams as well. ^^
the Gundam Unicorn indeed does look badas* cool, however I can imagine transforming it from unicorn to destroy mode can be a real pain. although thinking back, transforming the Zeta was actually the bigger pain. ^^;Â
My only complaint about this kit is that it’s too darn brittle! cost cutting with the plastic material? maybe. but then again it might have been because I’m a bit more heavy-handed while building kits.
and now on with the funnies…
^^ anyone care for a Gundam Unicorn Gashapon? ^^
not exactly funny, but I hope Singaporeans here would forgive me for planting the Unicorn right in the middle of Esplanade. couldn’t resist the urge to fill in the big gapping hole in the middle. ^^; wonder how big a fine one would get if someone actually parked a gundam there. ^^

congrats sir!
i just also finsihed my unicorn about a day ago.. was really excited…. and challenged building the kit (to think what level of engineering these guys worked on the runner parts)

Haven’t built mine. Planning on starting it once I get my second one. Heheh!
One will permanently be in Normal Mode and the other in Destroy Mode.

Gorgeous looking gundam! Unfortunately, I’m a lazy prick who gets only HG 1/144 (panel lines) and F.I.X figuration.
TEAR DOWN TEH DURIAN- I MEAN ESPLANADE.

Danny, Lol thanks. hope you got to buy one as well. ^^
Gordon, thanks, yup its photoshopped. should have set the camera on a longer shutter speed on the unicorn tho. ^^; lol sending you all my monopoly money soon. ^^ vfin gold and internal frame gunmetal. hope to see yours soon.
Gio, thanks. bandai did a great job on this kit. ^^
Mark, hope to seeboth soon. ^^
Loba, Thanks, doing panel lines on a 1/144 must be hard since they are small. lol on the Esplanade dome as durian fruit.

nice job marvin…..hw long did u take to build this gunpla?
April 5th, 2008 at 1:17 am
yeah agree most of the points you mentioned. Unicorn’s joints are toooo brittle. Especially the ankle joints, the feet keep falling. and the joint of the forearm to the shield is too weak. The transformation may looked difficult, but it’s way easier than zeta, Lol. Was the gashapon picture PS-ed? looks damn real.

marvin u didn’t apply decals for unicorn? i didn’t too cos i don’t kinda like all those red caution stickers. >.
April 6th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
hey marvin…mind tell me what is the code of tamiya pearl white spray?
April 6th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
homemade otaku, thanks, it took me about a week, I decided to take my time finishing it. ^^
mike, lol my wife got me the granddaddy of all gashapons. ^^;
gordon, can’t use the red decal, the clear part kinda stands out on the pearl finish. ^^;
markkent, I already threw out the empty spray cans but think its TS-45 pearl white.

Wow, you did an awesome job. I’ve been building kits for a few years, but I just started custom painting and such. You’re really good at making nice looking poses. I recently bought and built a MG GP02a and can NOT get it to pose decently, heck I can’t even get to hold the shield! >.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:37 am
thank you.
about the GP02a, that’s probably one of the hardest gunpla to pose. ^^;
May 10th, 2008 at 1:26 am
hey man, nice work on the unicorn. about the horns that you broke, you know it comes with a permanently closed horn for the MG mode. i hope u didn’t throw the frames yet =D.

Aldrine07, thanks. I did notice it. however I can’t remove the open v-fin without breaking off the superglued part. ^^;
June 15th, 2008 at 6:11 am
Dang that sucks, considering that is the focal point of the model, can u get replacement parts?
June 16th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
could probably order it online, although the cost might not be justifiable so I guess I’ll just stick to the superglue fix method. ^^

Sry, forgot to ask, did you put on a clear-coat or gloss-coat? and if not would you consider it?
July 21st, 2008 at 2:33 pm
didn’t use any coating spray. had a bad experience with top coat on my strike freedom a while back.
