GFF 0018 and 0039 Gundam Alex

no you are not starting to see double, meet Gundam Alex and Gundam Alex. ^^
decided to make a double review comparing the two Gundam Alex release. but will also blog on the alternate form of the GFF 0018 on a later post.
the Gundam Alex is another RX-78 series gundam however built specifically optimized for newtype pilots and is probably the first mobile suit with a panoramic cockpit.
as Bandai promised the new Gundam Alex seem more flexible than the old one,

the biggest difference would probably be found on the arms, the old gundam’s arm was a single joint with and horizontally swinging lower arm. the new one on the other hand seem to have double jointed arms similar to MG and HG kits.

What is also nice about the new release it that the frame is reinforced by metal parts. which in turn gives us a more sturdy gundam. also the plastic used on the new gundam seem less rubbery, thus it’ll be unlikely to find a crooked v-fin on the newer release.

at a glance they seem similar however a closer look reveals that the old Alex was painted better.

although I do have one gripe on the old release, those beam saber pegs look pretty… pretty ugly!

tried to fit the Chobham armour on the old Alex unfortunately couldn’t fit the armor on the arms so gave up on the idea. I guess it is safe to say that the armor is not compatible with the old Alex.

in conclusion, if you are out shopping for a gundam Alex, I’d recommend the new GFF0039 over to the older GFF0018. however get the GFF0018 if it’s the RX-78-4 you are looking for
anyway here are some more images of the GFF0039 Gundam Alex

The nice thing about having two Alex gundams is having one of them wield dual guns. ^^

The shield cannot be connected on the arm while the armor is on, had to use bluetac to stick it there. then again why would he need it? ^^

Hi, I’m a top secret weapon named Alex, and yes my name is on the shield for the world to see. ^^;

great comparison shots. Love the articulation demonstration one xD The visual differences are really hard to tell in person though but the articulation is more than enough to convince to me grab that the newer one. The trade-off in the plastic is that though it might not come warped, it is easier to break ^^;. Alex… such a normal human name for a Gundam…
